April,
2002 Meeting --
A L
M E Y E R S
Vice
President, Business Development
with
Retail
Forward, Inc.
"The Top 100
Retailers Worldwide:
What
Comes Next?"
Al
shared a presentation he made at Retail Forward's Strategic
Outlook Conference in NYC on April 16, entitled "The Top
100 Retailers Worldwide: What Comes Next?" Even though an
increasingly dominant group of fewer, stronger retailers with
superior operating skills has emerged on the global landscape,
this elite group of retailers continues to evolve. US retailers
dominate the top echelons of the list, but most still lack a
presence outside of North America; the largest non-US retailers
tend to be quite global, but many still lack a US presence.
Traditionally many of the largest retailers have operated
diversified portfolios; today many are retrenching and
rationalizing, while focused operators move ahead. What are the
stories behind the numbers? Can a truly global retail industry
emerge? What can we expect from the Top 100 in the Next Economy?
Al is
Vice President, Business Development for Retail Forward, Inc. He
is responsible for the sale of Retail Forward's Intelligence
Programs, including the North American Intelligence Program, the
Global Intelligence Program and the E-Retail Intelligence
Program. He is also responsible for consulting sales in the
Midwest Region of the U.S. Al also serves as a member of Retail
Forward's Management Committee.
Prior to joining Retail Forward, Al served as Director of Senn-Delaney/
Arthur Andersen's retail strategy practice. He also has 18 years
of consulting experience with the Management Horizons Division
of Price Waterhouse where he assisted retailers and consumer
goods suppliers with strategic planning and marketing strategy.
Al is a frequent speaker at national industry trade shows and
conferences on retail issues and is a regular contributor on
retailing issues for publications including The Wall Street
Journal, The Dallas Morning News, Furniture Today, The Fort
Worth Star Telegram, The Dallas Business Journal, and
Advertising Age. Al authored the Management Horizons' reports,
Retailing to the Affluent, Acquisitions and Homegoods Preview.
Al holds an MBA in finance from Michigan State University and a
BA in economics from Ohio Wesleyan University.

March,
2002 Meeting --
R
i c h a r d G r a d y
in
association with
Profiles
International, Inc.
"Square
Peg – Round Hole"
At least once
in everyone’s life you meet someone who makes an immediate impression
on you, and you think: "How did this person get this job?" or
"What Bozo hired this person?" If this person is working for
you, what does it do to the equation: Perception = Reality?
Richard
discussed the cost of the wrong fit, a person in a role that they are
not suited for, don’t desire, or that they took just because they
needed a job. He highlighted ways to perform the right hire, the
right promotion, and the right job match. He stressed the art of getting
to know people for what and who they are.
Richard is an
independent consultant for Profiles International, an assessment company
that pioneered the concept of job match. This methodology accepts that
people are specially suited by temperament and intellect for certain
kinds of work. It helps people select and manage the right person for
the right job. It also helps companies develop people in ways that they
have a natural inclination, so that they are suited for the role they
are about to play.
Richard brings
30 years of management experience to bear on the issues of job matching,
cost containment, employee retention, career coaching, and training
methodologies. He has held senior and executive level positions with
Electronic Data Systems, Affiliated Computer Services, and Computer Task
Group. His roles have been in Corporate Intelligence, Corporate
Communications, Strategic Planning, Analyst Relations, Mergers and
Acquisitions, Global Sales Leadership, Corporate Marketing, and Product
Management. On numerous occasions he had authored sales training and
development programs for Fortune 500 corporations. Richard resides in
Plano, Texas.
