Al is
Senior Vice President, Business Development for Retail Forward, Inc. Al
runs the Dallas office of Retail Forward where he is responsible for the
sale of Retail Forward’s Intelligence Programs, including the North American
Intelligence Program, the Global Intelligence Program and the E-Retail
Intelligence Program. He is also responsible for consulting sales in the
Midwest, South and Central Regions of the U.S. Al also serves as a member
of Retail Forward’s Executive and Management Committees.
Prior to joining Retail
Forward, Al served as Director of Senn-Delaney/Arthur Andersen’s retail strategy
practice. He also has 18 years of consulting experience with the Management
Horizons Division of Price Waterhouse where he assisted retailers and consumer
goods suppliers with strategic planning and marketing strategy.
Al’s retail consulting
experience includes developing strategies and implementation plans for improving
market positioning, customer focus, competitive appeals and merchandising
economics. Al’s experience with consumer products companies includes marketing,
brand strategies, developing retail distribution strategies, selling new
channels, introducing new products and advising clients on the success
requirements for effective implementation of retail marketing programs.

Topic:
Mr. Sheffield provided information about the Secret Service’s involvement in Cyber Crime
investigations, including examples of computer crimes currently affecting
business and personal networks.
He also gave a
perspective on how law enforcement and the public/private sectors can help
each other.

Bob graduated from the
University of Texas at El Paso with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal
Justice. He started his Law Enforcement career with the El Paso Police
Department and has served in the Secret Service for the past 20 years in El
Paso, New York, U.S. Secret Service Headquarters, and Dallas. His current
assignment involves supervision of the North Texas Electronic Crimes Task
Force.

Mr. Copeland shared Lowes' 60 Years of Retail


Michael Copeland has served as regional
vice president of store operations for Lowe’s Region 5, responsible for the
greater Dallas-Fort Worth area, since December 2003. Previously, he served as
regional vice president in the mid-west, and helped to open Lowe’s first stores
in the Chicago area. Copeland joined Lowe’s in 1993, and has more than 28 years
of retail experience, having served in a number of increasingly responsible
positions in the company.
In addition, Copeland was as a member
of the Duncanville, Texas city council from 1986 to 1991 and served as Mayor
Pro-Tem during his term. He has also been active in leadership roles in a
number of non profit organizations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Topic:
Mr. Lenz shared the Strategic Initiatives at Zale Corporation

Mr. Lenz was promoted to Group Senior Vice
President and Chief Financial Officer of Zale Corporation in February 2003.
In his position, he oversees the Accounting and Control, Planning, Tax, and
Treasury areas of the company.
His career with Zale Corporation began in
1988, and he held progressive management positions in the Corporate Accounting
and Financial Control areas before being promoted to Vice President, Controller
in 1995.
Prior to joining Zale, he spent nine years
with a national accounting firm, advancing to the position of senior manager.
In that role, he served public retail, wholesale and manufacturing companies in
the audit practice.
Mark has more than 26 years of experience
in all areas of accounting, financial reporting and internal controls. He
holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Texas at
Arlington and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Mark also is a Past President of the DFW
REA.

Mr. Hoffman shared the Neiman Marcus Direct growth story and offer his
insights on succeeding in the online channel

Brendan Hoffman is President and CEO of
Neiman Marcus Direct, the direct marketing and fulfillment business of The
Neiman Marcus Group. Neiman Marcus Direct produces more than 80 catalogs
annually for the Neiman Marcus and Horchow brands, including the Neiman Marcus
Christmas Book. Mr. Hoffman is also responsible for Neiman Marcus Online,
which operates web sites under NeimanMarcus.com, BergdorfGoodman.com, and
Horchow.com. Neiman Marcus Direct generates sales of 500 million dollars per
year and has a staff of over 1500 employees.
Mr. Hoffman has been with The Neiman
Marcus Group since 1998 serving in both the Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus
divisions where he has held positions in both merchandising and management.
Prior to joining Neiman Marcus, Mr. Hoffman held positions with Deloitte
Consulting and Lord and Taylor.
He is a graduate of the University of
Pennsylvania and has an M.B.A from the Wharton School of Business at the
University of Pennsylvania. Brendan lives in Dallas with his wife and two
children.

Strategic Challenges at RadioShack

David G. Barnes serves as Senior Vice
President and Chief Financial Officer of RadioShack Corporation. He joined the
company on April 18, 2005.
Barnes oversees RadioShack's finance,
treasury, accounting and investor relations functions.
Prior to joining RadioShack, Barnes was
the chief financial officer of Coors U.S., Coors Brewing Company, Golden, Colo.,
a position he held since 2002. He also served on the board of directors of
several affiliated companies, including Rocky Mountain Metal Container, Coors
Distributing Company and CerMex.
Barnes joined Coors in 1999 as vice
president and directed all financial planning and treasury activities.
From 1994 to 1999, he held progressive
financial management positions with Yum Brands (formerly the restaurant division
of PepsiCo), including chief financial officer and head of restaurant
development for Taiwan, Hong Kong and mainland China.
In addition, Barnes held strategic
planning, analysis and business development positions from 1990 to 1994 with
Asea Brown Boveri, an industrial electronics company. From 1989-1990, he was
manager of strategy and planning with Motorola, Schaumberg, Ill. Barnes began
his career as a consultant with Bain and Company, Boston, Mass.
Barnes earned a bachelor of arts degree in
applied mathematics in 1983 from Yale University, New Haven, Conn., and a master
of business administration degree in finance and marketing in 1987 from the
University of Chicago, Chicago, Ill.

Taking Care of Troops at Home and at War
September 7th Meeting Recap
The
2005-2006 Season of the Dallas/Fort Worth Retail Executives Association
(REA) kicked off Wednesday evening, September 7th. Past President,
Roland Funk of JCPenney was recognized and applauded for his many years
of service and dedication to the organization, as well as Sally Johansen
and Patty Storozuk also of JCPenney.
Our
guest speaker, Marilyn Iverson, COO of Army and Air Force Exchange
Services (AAFES), received a standing ovation from the more than 80+
members and guests on hand who listened to her address how AAFES is
helping to take care of our troops both at home and at war, as well as
AAFES disaster relief efforts, including Katrina.
The
Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES)- now in its second century
of service – remains committed to its mission of providing quality goods
and services at competitively low prices and generating earnings to
support morale, welfare and recreation (MWR) programs. This $9 billion
dollar global retail organization provides products and services to
authorized customers worldwide. Earnings fund new and improved exchange
stores with most of the earnings going to MWR programs – more than $242
million in 2004. AAFES’ shelf prices provide customers an average 22.09
percent overall savings compared to the competition. Customers can
enjoy exchange benefits in many ways, with the greatest value being
AAFES pledge to “Go Where You Go.”

Marilyn
Iverson is Chief Operating Officer for the Army
and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) in Dallas, Texas.
Iverson received her
Bachelor's of Science Degree from Indiana University, and later completed
her Master's Degree at Golden Gate University.
She began her career in
1971 at the former Ohio Valley Exchange Region as a Procurement Clerk.
While working in AAFES facilities, her positions have included those of
Operations Manager, Sales and Merchandise Manager, Store Manager, General
Manager and Deputy Region Chief/Retail Manager. She moved to HQ AAFES in
1994 as Vice President of the Specialty Stores SBG. Iverson became Senior
Vice President of the Main Stores Strategic Business Group in July 1995
and assumed the position of Senior Vice President of the Sales Directorate
in October 1996. She became Senior Vice President for the Central Region
in November 1997. From August 1999 to September 2001, Iverson served as
the Senior Vice President of the AAFES-Europe Region
and from September 2001 to December 2002, she was the Senior Vice
President of the Eastern Region.
Her staff positions have
included those of Buyer, Chief of Inventory Control, Assistant Chief of
Merchandising, Branch Chief in Plans Directorate and Program Manager in
Change Management Directorate.
Iverson was promoted to
Special Rate in May 1995.
